Lido Key Has So Much to Offer
Lido's beaches are one of Sarasota's most interesting and varied waterfront locations. South Lido Park is a large area of public land that juts into Big Pass, which connects Sarasota Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. It's a short walk from the wooded shoreline of the pass, where pleasure boats pull up to drop anchor, to the crashing waves of the Gulf. In the middle of the island is Lido Beach, a long stretch of white sand convenient to recreational facilities. Lido beach extends to North Lido Park's long expanse of secluded rolling dunes, with paths leading from the beach to nature trails that wind through the park's tranquil pine forest.
Between those two scenic areas are a collection of beach-front hotels and condominiums with panoramic views of both the Gulf and Sarasota Bay. Casual restaurants and hotel beach bars sit right on the sand, while fine dining can be found high above at the top of several buildings, to take advantage of the stunning sunsets to the west and the twinkling lights of downtown Sarasota to the east.
At the north end of Lido Key lies City Island, just before the bridge to neighboring Longboat Key, home to the world-renowned Mote Marine Laboratory and its public aquarium. Feed some of Mote's sharks, hold a horseshoe crab, get up close with a hulking manatee, then stop for a bite to eat at one of City Island's dockside restaurants.
