Andy MacPhail, President of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles, will be speaking at the Hyatt on Monday, March 29th, 2010 starting at noon. Antawan Smith, SNN6 sports anchor, will be the MC for this exclusive event hosted by Sarasota Area Sports Authority (SASA).




Prior to joining the Orioles in 2007, MacPhail spent 12 years as president and chief executive officer of the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs reached the playoffs twice during his tenure. Prior to his arrival, the Cubs reached the postseason only twice in the previous 50 seasons. In 2003, the Cubs also won their first postseason series since 1908.




Before his stint with the Cubs, MacPhail spent nine seasons as the general manager of the Minnesota Twins. When he was named the Twins’ GM in 1985 at age 32, he was the youngest person to hold that position in the majors. During his time with the Twins, he enjoyed two World Series championships, in 1987 and 1991. MacPhail was honored by The Sporting News as its 1991 Major League Executive of the Year and also earned United Press International’s American League Executive of the Year award after building a team that went from last place to World Champions in one season.
