Sarasota FL: Summer time is Lilly time - Lilly Pulitzer that is! And, on July 10th, from 2:00 to 6:30pm, Designing Women Boutique (DWB) will celebrate summer and Lilly’s colorful summer fashions and accessories with “Get It While It’s Hot” - a Lilly Pulitzer Trunk Show. You can beat the heat, shop the show and get refreshed with food and beverages from the Lilly cookbook of course.



With more than 70 locations nation-wide and a Sarasota shop on St. Armand’s Circle, why is Lilly coming to Designing Women? According to Shannon Moulton, manager of the shop on the circle, “After 4 years in Sarasota we are endeavoring to become more involved with community based organizations. Designing Women is a perfect venue and opportunity for us to present our clothing and accessory lines with a portion of the proceeds supporting DWB’s grant program for Sarasota’s arts and human service organizations.”

The back-story of Lilly Pulitzer’s development of a clothing line is fascinating. In the 1950’s Lilly opened a juice stand just off Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. In the course of working at the juice stand, Lilly found that squeezing juice stained her clothes. In order to hide future juice stains, Lilly asked her dressmaker to design a sleeveless shift dress made of bright, colorful printed cotton. Lilly loved the dress that would later become her "Classic Shift Dress.” Lilly quickly found that customers loved the dresses too, so she had her dressmaker produce more in order to sell at her juice stand. Soon she was selling more dresses than juice and decided to stop selling juice and focus on designing and selling what had become known as her "Lilly’s." Although Lilly closed down her company and retired in 1984, in 1993 she allowed her clothing line to be revived.

Bright colors and light weight fashions with enchanting style are very popular in our hot weather. We're extremely pleased to be hosting this event and providing our clientele with savings on Lilly and to have some summer fun and refreshments all done up in Lilly style.”
