Our guest speakers will demonstrate how Web CapTel, an internet-based service,
allows individuals who can speak, but have difficulty hearing, to read word-for-word
captions on their computer screen or mobile device. All you need is a telephone (any
kind of phone will do) and a computer with Internet connectivity.
The session will also spotlight the new captioned
telephone model 880i, which combines the convenience
of a telephone with the text capabilities of the Internet,
providing helpful captions automatically during phone
conversations. Scott Kahler, Sprint-Relay-Florida
Outreach Specialist and Frank Endres, Hamilton National
CapTel Sales Manager will lead the discussion.
The free lecture, followed by questions and answers, is
open to the community and will take place in the Geldbart Auditorium at the Selby Public Library in downtown Sarasota on Wednesday, March 17 2010. The program, sponsored by the Hearing Loss Association of Sarasota, starts at 1:30 PM and ends at 3 PM.
HLAS, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, is the local chapter of the Hearing Loss Association
of America (HLAA). HLAS facilitates sessions where people with hearing loss can help each
other through education, advocacy and community support. HLAS has monthly meetings,
which usually feature an expert speaker. All lectures and meetings are open to everyone in
the community seeking ways to deal with hearing loss. For more information, please visit
www.hlas.org.
