The Sarasota International Cricket Club is proud to host the 16th annual Six-A-Side Festival. The festival will consist of 15 teams with 6 to 8 players and will take place at the Sarasota Cricket Club in Lakewood Ranch from November 25 to 29, 2009.
Confirmed teams for this year’s festival includes the Houston Memorial, Houston Nomads, Nashville Vols, Fairfield County Cricket Club from Connecticut, Titans and Titans Youth from Palm Beach, Sarasota Redbacks, Cayman Island Greenies and Evergreenies, and teams from the United Kingdom – Esher Cricket Club and Staffordshire.
The 15 teams are divided into 3 groups and play for the Festival Shield, starting with a round robin. The two leading teams in each group proceed to Finals Day on Sunday. The public is invited to attend the cricket grounds to watch the exciting play.
SICC President Laurence Parry says, “As a club we are so fortunate to have a small nucleus of ‘non-members’ who step to the wicket year after year to ensure a successful Thanksgiving Festival. Without their ‘hands on’ efforts The Festival would have been history many years ago.”
The Sarasota International Cricket Club was founded in 1983. For 10 years the club played at a ground on Wilkinson Road, graciously provided by The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Between 1985 and 1987, SICC played in the Central Florida Cricket League. In 1993, Lakewood Ranch offered SICC the use of a laser-leveled, full-size ground on University Parkway opposite the Sarasota Polo Club. With the ground scheduled for development, Lakewood Ranch provided a new field about one mile further east on University Parkway, together with the opportunity to make this the club's permanent home. The club was honored in 2004 when Richie Benaud, cricketing legend and a frequent visitor to Sarasota, agreed to become the Patron of SICC
